Hellenic Language Education
Once the lingua franca of the Mediterranean world. Today, the Greek language is no longer the international medium of commerce, diplomacy, or entertainment. It is a shadow of its former self, with only 13 million native speakers worldwide. In the Diaspora, only 1 in 5 Greek-Americans can speak Dimotiki. While throughout the eastern Mediterranean, Greek languages such as Katoitaliótika, Tsakonian, and Pontian are endangered.
To preserve the essence of Hellenic culture and identity, the Institute is committed to supporting Hellenic Language Programs and defending the linguistic rights of ethnic Greeks. Therefore, it is one of our priorities to work with Greek Diaspora schools and language programs to create educational materials to learn Dimotiki and all Greek languages and dialects.
